Dealer Service Bay was built for exactly that moment: at 7:04 PM, Gus answers, quotes the job from server-priced services, checks the real schedule, and books the bay.

This is part two of our series on the AI work we have shipped this year. Dealer Service Bay is the service-operations side of our dealer platform, running on the same demonstration store as DealerFlow: Sterling Motorcars, a fictional dealership we operate so you can try everything live. The recovery figures below are published industry benchmarks from DemandLocal and Impel modeled onto the demonstration store, not a customer's audited results.

The Work

Service departments have a physics problem: the people who make the money are under cars, and the person who answers the phone is a luxury most stores staff thin. Industry studies put the recoverable revenue from missed service calls near $853,000 a year per store. Most stores recover none of it.

So we built the service lane as one connected system: a light Front Office workspace for the desk, a dark Shop Floor workspace for the garage, and a voice advisor on the phones who works when nobody else does. What We Built

1. Two workspaces, one store

A single toggle flips the product between a bright front-office view for advisors and a dark, glare-friendly garage view for technicians. Same data, two very different rooms.

2. A lane board built for gloves

Check a car in, drag it bay to bay, assign a technician, mark it picked up, all from a phone, with every control sized for a gloved hand.

3. Gus, the voice service advisor

Gus answers the phones, quotes common services from server-validated prices, reads real availability on a 20-minute slot grid, and books the appointment. Double-booking is impossible: the server rejects a taken slot.

4. The recovery queue

Missed calls do not vanish into voicemail. They land in a queue, get called back, and get priced, so the store sees the money it almost lost.

5. Declined-work follow-ups

Every declined service is ranked by what a call tonight is worth, turning yesterday's no into next month's booked bay.

What Worked

The design bet was that a service department does not need more software on a desktop it never sits at. It needs the day to be runnable from a pocket, and the phone to answer itself.

The proof moment is the 7 PM call. Gus quotes a brake job from prices the server holds, not prices a model invents, and the appointment lands on tomorrow's schedule flagged Booked by Gus. The advisor reads the ticket over coffee.

What It Means for Automotive Service

Fixed operations is where dealerships make their steadiest money, and it is also where the most revenue quietly leaks: unanswered phones, unquoted calls, declined work that nobody follows up on. The benchmark research is blunt about the size of that leak.

The pattern here generalizes to any appointment business with a shop floor: give the desk and the floor different views of the same record, and give the phone to an agent that can only promise what the schedule can prove.
